Instructional Videos
Learn to knit lace and chart knitted lace using Lace Shorthand in this DVD suitable for beginner and advanced knitters.

In this tape Sandy Terp demonstrates how to form the basic stitches used in lace knitting, as well as how the stitches are organized and kept track of with her Lace Shorthand. Sandy uses a knitted lace bookmark as a sampler and demonstrates a different group of techniques in each of three sections. In the first section, Sandy shows you how to cast on a non-biasing first stitch and develop the project using various knitted lace stitches, such as making 1's, loop edges, enlarged and double yarn-overs and edge eyelets. In the second section, Sandy teaches you how to make four kinds of faggoting stitches and in the third section, which is mostly about eyelets, you are given practice in double decreases. All of the stitches are explicitly shown in high contrast thread from the point of view of the knitter. Information on choosing threads, needles and patterns is provided as well as many examples of the types of projects you can create using lace knitting. Through out the video you are shown how your stitches relate to each other using Lace Shorthand, a simplified method of charting knitted lace patterns developed by Sandy.

Sandy Terp's Russian Inspired Shawl Construction Class beautifully produced on DVD with an accompanying resource CD.

In the beautiful surroundings of her home and office, Sandy Terp begins by showing you how traditional Russian lace shawls are made as well as how and why she has modified their design. Then Sandy teaches you the techniques used in their construction as she leads you, stitch by stitch, through a project lace doily that employs all of these techniques. By using a lace doily to teach these methods, you are able to learn how to construct corners and edging, join the edging to the main body of the project and how to finish and block your work. The end result is a very attractive lace doily that encompasses all of the techniques used in the shawl but done in a project 1/10th the size of a typical shawl. All of the stitches are explicitly shown in both the American and Continental styles from the point of view of the knitter using high contrast threads with the relevant row from the chart shown as a sub-title making it extremely easy to follow along. A review of related books and appropriate threads and needles is also included. Resource CD Includes: project charts, project instructions, pictures of the project, and pictures of shawls that use these techniques.

Design and knit your own shawl using Russian Shawl Construction Techniques and Lace Shorthand on DVD with an accompanying resource CD.

Sandy Terp begins by reviewing eyelet patterns and their placement through demonstration on several vintage and modern shawls and samplers from her collection. Then she explains how to chart your patterns and make a sampler to develop your gauge and determine the size thread and needle you will want to use. Pattern mapping techniques are covered in detail with several examples of original shawls and how the designer translated their inspiration to a knit-able pattern. All covered stitches are explicitly shown from the point of view of the knitter, using high contrast threads. Sandy takes you through the design and pattern mapping process on her project shawl, "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend". Finally Sandy and her helper show you ways to display and wear your knitted lace shawls. Resource CD Includes: sampler & project charts, sampler & project instructions, pictures of the sampler & project, pictures of shawls that use these techniques.
