2008 Snowflake

2008 Knitted Lace Snowflake

This is a free pattern for you to use and share.  If you like it, consider my:

BLIZZARD OF SNOWFLAKES KIT Interchangeable patterns for 3 snowflakes with 3 sections each allow you to create a possible 27 different snowflakes!  This kit provides the "Starts" for three snowflakes - the starts are on threads so the hard part (putting a couple of stitches on THREE needles) is made easy for you.  Just slide the stitches onto your needles and finish the first three snowflakes.  Then follow the careful directions in the kit to create your own starts and snowflakes.  Kit includes the 3 starts, patterns, instructions and enough cotton thread to make 9 or 10 snowflakes. $18.

And now the FREE pattern . . .

I used a size 10 crochet cotton and a set of 4 double pointed needles in size 2.  The beginning can be any center medallion cast-on you like. My current favorite is a variation of the one I call "perfect". Lesley Ewing took a video of this at a recent class. You can see it at this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fJwxEt0aog

Notes and Symbols: There are 6 sections, 2 on each needle. Each section starts with 1 st. In the following patterns I show only one section. This is repeated twice for each needle–6 times around. Pick a start from the three given. When you finish round 8 you will have 8 sts in each of 6 sections. Now pick one of the middles and work rounds 9 thru 26. Now you will have 17 sts in each section. Go to your chosen point design and finish the knitting.  All even rounds are plain K  The st count for each section is given (#) at the end of each pattern line on the chart.

All of these snowflakes are finished with a crocheted loop edge. Put your hook thru the st indicated, chain 5, put the indicated number of sts on your hook, yarn over and pull thru all. Continue in this way with a chain 5 between all the way around. See that the top of the points are symmetrical and centered. Fudge if necessary. No one is going to count sts.  Stiffen with sugar water or other fabric stiffener and block on plastic covered cardboard, pulling out each loop.

Symbols

O = yarnover

# = knit the number indicated

/ = K 2 tog

\ = SSK

V = K&P into one st, making two

¸ = double centered decrease

#x(______) = repeat the action (___) the indicated number of times

>>>>1 = move one st from needle 3 to needle 1 by knitting an extra st on the relief round

Continue to do so at the start of every section on the round.

Pattern: This pattern was uploaded to our site as a large image file to retain the chart formatting.  Please be patient - it will take some time for the image to load.  It is also NOT meant to be printed and will not fit nicely on a page for you.
