Charting - The Short and Sweet of ItSeptember 18th and 19th 2010 at MOONRISE in Hilltown, PAIMPORTANT - This Workshop will be at my NEW HOME - just a few miles from my old home. Make sure you get directions! When all is said and done the hardest part of lace knitting is not knowing what to do, it’s knowing where to do it. This workshop will focus on my methods that shorten and simplify the directions for lace knitting, making them into manageable sight bits. You will learn to KNOW beyond any question just where you are in your knitting. When the paperwork is done and the project is charted, or recharted the knitting is a joy. The beginner on up will benefit from this workshop. We will start with Lace Shorthand which is the basic method for making sense of lace patterns; Then go to Semi Circle charts
which I “unvented” for medallion knitting;
And on to Panel Charting to make even the largest, most confusing designs understandable; Map Charting makes it easy to place motifs in a large project. All charting papers (copyright free) and yarn needed for Sunday’s project are given. A weekend of fun & learning - - good

conveniently located 30 minutes north of Philadelphia (cats in residence).
There are lots of area hotels in which to stay, ask for some
recommendations when you register. The class room is comfortable and
beautifully furnished, the setting is peaceful, rural Pennsylvania.
There are plenty of area activities for a significant other to enjoy while
you are in class. The cost is $90. Materials for class
work will be provided. Also included: morning and afternoon snacks and
wonderful gourmet lunches done by Ebby. |

MOONTIDE Knitting Retreat 2011June 4th - 11th at Surfside in Wellfleet, Cape CodRegistration for 2011 closes earlier than usual - we must have your deposit by 11/15/10. Several cabins are already full! Don't delay!
Our topic for 2011 will focus on an original design whose inspiration and details will be kept secret until the first day of the retreat! It will feature unusual shaping and techniques done in your choice of the wool/silk zephyr colors. The pattern for the retreat project will be exclusively available only to the retreat attendees! You'll advance both your technical skills and your ability to translate your creativity into a knittable piece. There will be approximately 18 hours of instruction at our large, comfortable library classroom and an additional 9 hours provided via three mini-classes (lace topics not directly related to the primary project) at our main cabin.
CABINS
We rent cabins in Surfside

(not roughing it, these are comfortable small houses). We share
housekeeping, food shopping, and cooking with cabin mates. All
cabins have one bath, a fully equipped kitchen, heat, clock THE
TOWN Wellfleet has it all when it comes to water—ocean (Surfside is
right on the ocean), kettle ponds and the bay. The National Seashore
Park takes up 1/3
GETTING THERE Wellfleet is 2.5 hours from Boston airport and about the same from Providence RI. Figure about 1 hour after you cross the canal. Arrival time is Sat in the afternoon. Departure is Sat in the morning. COST
Classes (approximately 30 hours) are $375 and the lodging for a single
occupancy room is $350. The lodging for a shared twin bedroom or a shared

Please make a copy for your information. A letter will go out confirming your registration and with more detailed information.

There
are several ways to turn a corner on an edging as it is joined to a
project or as it is worked independently. In this class we will make
the funny little piece pictured. The middle is done at home and we will
put on the edge using four different corner techniques. On Sunday you
will choose your favorite and start a small project. Small doily with
Russian corners, Handkerchief with the English Miter, ring pillow cover
with the gathered corner, or doll shawl with the eased corner. All yarn
and supplies given.
Join
us for a fabulous week spent with fellow knitters in beautiful, serene 
companions and men are welcome. We stay right by
the ocean, in a group of cottages which back up to the National Seashore,
the same ones we've been enjoying for years.

There is a marvelous flea market on Sat & Sun and several antique
stores. Provincetown is 20 minutes away for serious arty shopping and
other cultural activities including whale watching.
